Hello, 2012!

Happy New Year!

I made the artwork greeting below in Pantone’s color of the year: Tangerine Tango.

I had a full December 31. I made spaghetti for lunch, met up friends and attended my cousin’s birthday.  I planned to make leche flan but I did not have the time to make it anymore. Besides, we were already full from my cousin’s birthday.

The fridge is still full.  January is going to be a sweet month. I still have the cupcake mix, brownie mix and ingredients for leche flan.

We had a simple media noche.

Prosperity candles

When we went to Manila last October,  a relative introduced us to the prosperity candles. They were sold in National Book Store for P25.25. The idea seemed interesting and fun so we bought our candles. We finally got to light them last night.

These were the instructions.

This is a win-win kind of exercise. Each candle represents a blessing.

At 12 midnight, I arranged my candles. Here’s what I got:

I got orange=brightness as my great blessing for the year.  I don’t  how to interpret this one. It sounded positive unless it represents skin tone.  HA! I love my tan.

New Year’s Eve

I found this video on and it is soo cute. I’ve always liked Zooey Deschanel’s positive and bubbly aura.  This is a pre-New Year video but I’m sharing this anyway. Bonus: Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Zooey’s co-star in “500 days of Symmer”) is in it.

My DIY Planner

This is a graphical representation of how much it will cost for someone to get that popular Starbucks planner. (c/o myManila)

I do not think I would be able to drink my coffee well knowing that I would spend that much for a planner. (Kuripot!!) I am relieved knowing I did not gain all those calories. I am inclined to order the fancy-looking drinks with whipped cream. (Whew!)

This was my planner in college. We used to call this a filofax.

It had refillable inserts with tabs. While I abused this in college by plotting my exam schedules and various course deadlines, I never used this after graduation.

When I was still working, I used this planner (one of the  company giveaways). It was straightforward with dates and lists. What I liked about this one was that it could be laid flat and I could see the entire week. Downside, space was limited. I am a doodler.

If I had the budget, I would have opted for a Moleskine Daily Planner. It is quite thick with a page for each day.

I already saw a planner within my budget but by the time I was ready to buy, it sold out.  I made my own planner instead.

Yes, you are looking at a math notebook. There are grid lines in each page which makes it easier for me to draw lines. Below is my January calendar.

The next pages are for notes and daily to-dos. I have enough space for notes and doodles.

This planner reflects my taste because I love math. (Pag sure uy!) 😀 Added bonus, the grid line helps me create symmetric drawings. I found inspiration from graphic designer, Isabel Gatuslao. When she designed her wrapping paper, she used graphing paper to draw her initial design.  Who knows what creative ideas I might craft in this planner of mine? (Wishful thinking!)

I am now ready for 2012!
